Believe it to Achieve it

You can never achieve something that you believed you can’t.

Why? Because saying things like “I absolutely can’t make it, there is no hope.” to your mind, is a command for it to stop working on finding ways to make it come true.

How it works

The mind is interesting. It likes to confirm that what it thinks it right.

That accounts for why we have confirmation bias, cognitive dissonance, and insufficient justification effect at the first place.

Confirmation bias

Confirmation bias refers to our natural tendency to

  • be more aware of opinions that support our stance
  • dislike and tend to ignore opinions that go against our existing beliefs
  • tend to interpret neutral facts or situations in a way that support our stance.

Let’s say you think you are smart. And you failed your final exam. With confirmation bias, you’d

  • pay more attention to opinions like “academic performance has nothing to do with your intelligence”, “many successful people didn’t go to or finish college”;
  • ignore the fact that knowledge is required for any type of success

So, if you believe that you can achieve something, your mind will start looking for ways and opportunities that can help you achieve it.

But if you don’t believe it, your mind shuts down your awareness such that you failed to identify opportunities to do so even if the possibility is just right in front of you.

You can imagine your mind has many radars; if you believe you can achieve a goal your mind will start a particular radar that look for ways and opportunities for doing so; if you don’t, it won’t.

And that’s how you cut yourself off certain good things in life. By not believing that you can achieve it. Even if you can, if you just believed it.

So whatever I believe in, I can achieve?

Yes- as long as you work according to the principles.

You can’t achieve anything while working against the principles. Like, believing that you won’t die jumping off a building with no gear is not gonna keep you alive afterwards.

But whatever goals that do not go against the principles, is possible.

Because it’s just how the world works. It has rules, but also infinite possibilities. As long as you

  1. learn and work with the principles- i.e. how the world, and humans (aka human brain, the mind) actually works (you can learn this in manual for your brain);
  2. learn the truths- i.e. expose yourself to the actuality, get inspirations from what other people are doing, and so beware of what can you possibly achieve and become,
  3. start to believe you can achieve your goals (i.e. open up your mind on finding out how can you do so),

you will be able to achieve it.

As simple as that.

Simple, but not easy

However, the simplest things are what the majority ignore the most.

They think what can bring them success is some unicorn ideas or secrets hidden. They try hard to uncover those non-existing fantasies they have for “success”, completely ignore the fact that success is doing the right thing in the right way, with consistency.

If you want the road map for doing so, here it is:

  1. Find out accurate sources that can give you accurate life principles.
  2. Commit to investing some time everyday to learn about them.
  3. Make sure your new learnings are deeply ingrained in your brain that your new knowledge and beliefs become your second nature.
  4. Start taking actions accordingly- new actions that you’ve never taken before, in order to bring you to where you have never been before.

If you want the resources for step 1, you can find life-changing truths in this blog.

Start now

Regardless of what you choose to do, either ignore what you’ve just read and continue living as if you’ve learned nothing, or actually step up and start reinventing yourself- life passes by.

No one or nothing will wait for you.

People get older. Things wear and tear. Generation changes.

What are you waiting for?
