Pure hell forces action, but anything less can be endured with enough clever rationalization.
-Timothy Ferris
How bad do you want to escape?
How sick, how done are you with your current situation?
You cannot “transform” your life unless you’re dying for it.
Any change is uncomfortable, and transformation is the extreme end of the spectrum. It is replacement in essence.
Your new life is going to cost you the old one.
-Brianna Wiest
You must give up almost everything you have taken as truth your entire lifetime- you current life philosophy, worldview, and even how you identify yourself.
It is gonna be uncomfortable, but it is gonna be life-changing.
Change and discomfort are two sides of the same coin.
You old beliefs may have brought you to this position in your life, but they are can no longer support you any further. They keep you in the same place. The only way to progress, is to let them go and take on new mindsets that can support your vision.
If you’re ready for it, here’re the exact steps to your rebirth.
3 steps to complete transformation
As complicated as “life-transformation” may seem, there are only three steps to take:
- Expand your awareness.
- Elevate your standards.
- Acquire the required skills.
1) Expand your awareness
You can only cook with what’s in the fridge.
You can only create what’s in your mind.
If your current way of living is all you know about life, you can never get out of it.
So the first step is always to expand your awareness. Look at what other people are doing. Look at their lifestyle. Look at their work flow.
Look at what have already happened in real-life to understand what is possible in real-life.
If they can do it, you can too.
2) Elevate your standards
If you want to improve anything, first elevate your standards.
Your new standards serve as goals that drives your actions. If you have no goals, you are going nowhere.
The power of standard elevation can be seen in someone expecting the birth of his/her child.
They move to new and bigger places. They start finding ways to make more money. They switch friend groups.
Why?
Because their standards change.
Their old apartment becomes too small. Their address becomes too inconvenient. Their income becomes too scant. The people around them suddenly become not good enough- for their child.
In order to make their reality matches their standards, they must change, so they did.
You should do the same.
Elevate your standards, in every aspect.
- Your health.
- Your physical appearance.
- Your words and behaviours.
- Your financial status.
- Your interpersonal relationships.
- Your confidence.
When you elevate your standards and have your ideal self in mind,
- You no longer find your current lifestyle acceptable.
- You no longer find your self-care routine sufficient.
- You start seeking more knowledge and education.
- You start finding ways to make more money.
- You start to cut off people in your life.
- You start to take any step necessary to work on your insecurities.
Only by then, your life starts to change.
3) Acquire the skills
Now you have constructed a beautiful painting in your brain.
To transit it to the reality, you need the skill to do so, or your drawing in real-life will be nothing like the one in your head.
Learn the principles. Practice the skills. Adjust with real-life feedback.
For example,
- if you want confidence, you must first understand what is confidence. What is its difference with arrogance or narcissism? How many aspects does it have? What are their constituents? Then you start working on each to build it.
- if you want to learn a particular skill or knowledge, you must first understand how learning works, especially if you struggle with connecting and memorising everything you learned.
- if you want to reduce your working hours, you have to understand how to make each of your minute count, how to maximise your output, and how to schedule your day.
Starting your journey
Transforming your life is not an easy task. It takes lots of effort, and courage.
Heaven knows how to put a proper price upon its goods.
-Thomas Paine
However, it is really not that hard as compared to what you can get.
I hope you have found clarity in how to transform you life from now. You will get confused or stuck along the way, but always remind yourself that the only two problems would be a lack of awareness and/or a lack of skills.
As a final reminder, the beginning of any changes will be ridiculously hard because of inertia, the natural tendency of objects at rest to stay at rest. But, everything will become much easier down the line as you build momentum.
