Entrepreneurship = Freedom

There are only two paths in the world: you either work on your dreams, or other’s dreams.

There is no in-between.

You work on yours by entrepreneurship

You have dreams. You have visions. You have goals that you want to achieve in this life, you have impacts that you want to exert on this world.

And that is what you should do with this life.

Why? Two reasons.

First, understand that the world need people to do what you’re wanting to do. Perhaps you want to open a resturant. You want to start your agency company. You want to design clothes. Whatever it is, the world needs you. Do you not go to resturants? Not hire agents? Not put on clothers?? Nope. If there is no one doing those things, we’ll all suffer, or at least, experience a much lower quality of life.

Next, realise it has to be you. Not saying that the world will crash without you, but it will become better with you. Because you can only do something well if you genuinely want to do it- and I mean genuinely. That is, obviously you will need to receive money in return for your products or service, but you don’t do it for the money, you just love doing what you want. This is where magic sparks- how ordinary people become extraodinary. It’s passion– and passion can’t be taught.

“You can’t teach passion”

-Warren Buffett

Don’t you see that not everyone has the same dreams, visions, or goals as you? People don’t want what you want, and they don’t even understand why you want that. You may have felt so frustrated and confused because people don’t “get it”, becayse you aren’t getting other people’s validation. But realise that it is because that vision is not for them. It’s for you.

So your passion is what you should do with this life.

You work on others by being employed

By that I didn’t mean jobs are bad- if you have passion for your job, and you really feel you can contribute more by working at that particular position, it’s great for you.

But if you hate your job, thinking that it’s meaningless and stupid, is a complete waste of your life, and you started becoming miserable doing it- why are you staying?

Do you want that sense of security? So you traded your freedom- ability to work on what you want– for that?

Do you “need it” because you have responsibilities? Mortgage, debts, kids? But are you willing work until you get rid of every one of these, until you are already too old to work on anything else, including your dreams?

If no, you have to start coming up a plan to quit.

An exit plan

Not immediately quit, however, because it will take time to build your business to a point that it can cover your financial needs.

But start creating a plan in your head. Start asking yourself questions:

  • How much time could you carve out for doing non-job related work?
  • What could you spend that time on?
  • What is your passion?
  • What skills do you need to learn/brush up on?
  • What new opportunities should you seek?

“If you don’t know where you are going, you are going nowhere.”

Henry Kissinger
