Focus on becoming wealthier, not richer.
People talk about rich and wealth both in terms of money…
In this post, I will share with you a whole new view that richness refers to the amount of money you have, while wealth is the quality of your mental life, i.e. how you feel inside, and why do I suggest everyone to focus on becoming wealthier, not richer.
Is wealth more important than richness?
Yes and no.
Yes because the ultimate goal of getting rich is just to get wealthier, no because it is very difficult (if not impossible) to be wealthy when you are literally broke.
Financial stability (richness) is an necessary part of a stress-free life (wealth). If you panic all day for your survival, you likely won’t have a healthy mental life, let alone fulfiling.
You must first make enough money that can let you survive, and free yourself from the things that you don’t like doing (aka a job that you hate). At this phase, more rich translates to more wealth, because money is the limiting factor.
But once making more money does not immediately translate to wealth, you have to start focusing on trading your richness for wealth.

Trade your richness for wealth
There are only 2 options- you either make your money work for you, or you work for the money.
And the first option is what I’d suggest- when you start having more money, start to think about how you spend it on enriching your life and making you happier. It may be:
- learning a new skill.
- developing a new hobby.
- starting new projects.
- creating new life experiences.
- nurturing your interpersonal relationships.
- treating your loved ones.
If you do neither of these, you are blindly chasing for richness for no reason- i.e. you are working for your money.
You may be getting richer, but you aren’t getting happier, and may feel even more hollow inside. You may think, “I already have lots and lots of money. Why ain’t I happy?”
So what’s the point of making more money at the cost of your wealth?
Some rich people thought making even more money is the way to happiness, so they eager to become richer. But when they made that amount of money but didn’t get the happiness they expect, they got so disappointed and get depressed because they don’t know what to do anymore. So they focus on making more money and try to see will things get better. No, it doesn’t work like that.
Unfortunately, they don’t know.
But you do.
Adopt the wealth = abundant-mental-life mindset now
Start focus more on your wealth right now.
Ask yourself these questions:
- Am I making enough money that give me financial stability?
- Am I taking good care of my health?
- Am I nurturing my interpersonal relationships?
- Am I investing in learning into a person that has integrity, is confident, is grateful, is peaceful?
And you will know your next action step.
All the best!
